That is the BEST Frankenstein joke. Also, I think if I am going to be haunted by anything, it’s that comment about the event horizon of storage

I know. I've been thinking a lot more about my storage ever since.

Ugh, that cartoon! Genuine nightmare fuel for very small me. The whole gestalt was pretty terrifying, with the chasing and the ghoulish laughter and all, but I think what really upset me were those grotesque forearms on Tweety Hyde. Still, prompted by this post I just rewatched the short and can report that 1) I experienced no residual trauma, thank goodness, and 2) the treatment of the opening credits is pretty brilliant.

Totally agree on all - the forearms are the WORST!! And the way he'd tremor when he was getting big and Hyde-like!!

Tor, I love the illustrations! I can relate to the storage situation. Mine was intentional and lasted for five years. It felt quite freeing to live minimally. Now, everything is unpacked and cluttered again. Oh, the joys of dusting!😂

Thanks Maggie! Haha the dusting never ends after moving/unpacking! Did you feel after five years that you didn't need the stuff anymore, or were you glad to have it back?

Tor, I didn’t miss the stuff until we moved into a bigger space. Then it was like revisiting old friends. I appreciated what was stored much more. I started putting the minimal out, then more and more as time went by. Everything feels new when put in a different place, yet “home” at the same time. Christmas maxed the unpacking spree! 😂 Now I’m back to clearing the clutter! We’ve gotten rid of a lot that we’d stored and lugged around for years which felt good.

Oh god. I’m over a year in on a storage unit… what you say about a 3months ‘cut-off’ fills me with even more cold sweaty dread about it! Arrrggghhh!!! 🙈

Brilliant T shirt idea.

As for the storage thing, it took me years to persuade my other half to move his stuff out of storage and into our house. I had to total up the thousands of dollars he had spent on it before he would do it. Then I had to help him move the stuff out and sort it for sale or donation or trash. And now boxes of it still remain unpacked in our house.

I’m an idiot.

Thanks Alex! Hahahaha I understand this. It feels like a horrible waste of money, but then it's pretty horrible having it all back too... I sympathise!!

I had a real Proustian moment seeing the Tweety hyde. Thrown back to the scruffy carpet and little box TV, lying on my tummy scooping sugary rice crispies into my gob, being at once terrified and delighted by it!! It genuinely gives me a thrill of excitement seeing it again! Thanks pal!

Love the Frankenstein quote! I would buy that t-shirt!

And the clocks - so brilliant! Every now and then I Google the cat clock (do they have one in Seinfeld?!) to try and buy one!

As for the T-Shirt: YES PLEASE!

Two sides, with the creature accompanying the front text and the doctor the one on the back! Would make it even more irritating and keep people thinking just a moment longer :-)

Hahaha!! It's definitely going to have to be a summer t-shirt as the hassle of taking off one's cardigan/jacket to show people the back isn't on the table. I've just sent off for a test so we'll see... but haven't put the illustrations :( - a work in progress!

Love this Tor. Bonnie does actually know the Looney Tunes characters, but watching that terrifying episode has made me wonder why they expect children to understand Jekyll and Hyde? That Frankenstein joke really made me laugh. Did you see the annotated beginning to Interview with the Vampire that was circulating on Twitter recently? I'll find it and send it.

Tor Freeman's avatar

I thought that too!! But now I'm thinking about it, I LEARNED about Jekyll and Hyde entirely through other media, most likely starting with Looney Tunes, so maybe it doesn't really matter? No I didn't see that!!! I'd love to - man, it'd be no good fanfictioning Anne Rice would it, she preempted it!
