Tor, I love the illustrations! I can relate to the storage situation. Mine was intentional and lasted for five years. It felt quite freeing to live minimally. Now, everything is unpacked and cluttered again. Oh, the joys of dusting!π
Ugh, that cartoon! Genuine nightmare fuel for very small me. The whole gestalt was pretty terrifying, with the chasing and the ghoulish laughter and all, but I think what really upset me were those grotesque forearms on Tweety Hyde. Still, prompted by this post I just rewatched the short and can report that 1) I experienced no residual trauma, thank goodness, and 2) the treatment of the opening credits is pretty brilliant.
Oh god. Iβm over a year in on a storage unitβ¦ what you say about a 3months βcut-offβ fills me with even more cold sweaty dread about it! Arrrggghhh!!! π
As for the storage thing, it took me years to persuade my other half to move his stuff out of storage and into our house. I had to total up the thousands of dollars he had spent on it before he would do it. Then I had to help him move the stuff out and sort it for sale or donation or trash. And now boxes of it still remain unpacked in our house.
I had a real Proustian moment seeing the Tweety hyde. Thrown back to the scruffy carpet and little box TV, lying on my tummy scooping sugary rice crispies into my gob, being at once terrified and delighted by it!! It genuinely gives me a thrill of excitement seeing it again! Thanks pal!
Love the Frankenstein quote! I would buy that t-shirt!
And the clocks - so brilliant! Every now and then I Google the cat clock (do they have one in Seinfeld?!) to try and buy one!
Two sides, with the creature accompanying the front text and the doctor the one on the back! Would make it even more irritating and keep people thinking just a moment longer :-)
Love this Tor. Bonnie does actually know the Looney Tunes characters, but watching that terrifying episode has made me wonder why they expect children to understand Jekyll and Hyde? That Frankenstein joke really made me laugh. Did you see the annotated beginning to Interview with the Vampire that was circulating on Twitter recently? I'll find it and send it.
That is the BEST Frankenstein joke. Also, I think if I am going to be haunted by anything, itβs that comment about the event horizon of storage
