Hello dear Marchers!
Following on from my post about World Book Day, having noticed that the children at the school I visited didn’t recognise Sylvester from Looney Tunes I’ve been thinking about those cartoons a bit. And to ponder Looney Tunes even for a short time is to quickly be remembering this most terrifying episode: Hyde and Go Tweet. Anyone else recall/been trying to forget that one?
It was insanely scary! In looking it up just now I found another Looney Tunes Jekyll & Hyde riff, this time with Bugs Bunny. It’s less frightening because a. I’m no longer 6-years-old (O! Cruel Time!) and b. because I have no problem with the peril of Bugs being mangled by Mr Hyde - he well deserves it for over 90 years of sass.
Not much has been going on my end apart from work. The week before last on House of Games (Richard Osman’s excellent TV quiz show on BBC2 in the UK every weekday) someone quoted this (anonymous) saying:
I thought it was pretty funny, and wanted to make a poster from it. But now I’m wondering if a t-shirt would be better, with the first half on the front, and the second on the back? And maybe no drawings? Frankenstein jokes are always welcome - my sister sent me this one by Chip Zdarsky a while back and I still love it:
**STORAGE CORNER**
Almost all of my books, shoes and winter coats (the last two accidentally) are in cursed storage somewhere in Acton. My friend recently hired a unit to help her declutter and rearrange some out-of-control piles of paper. The man there told her that three months is the event horizon of storage. If you haven’t cleared out by three months and handed the key back, you basically never will, and it’ll become a silent drain on your finances and emotional wellbeing for the rest of your life.
So, not much to relate from the past couple of weeks. Wishing you a good Easter, and here’s a repost from last year celebrating the Greatest Day of the Year, coming to us here in the UK this Sunday.
That is the BEST Frankenstein joke. Also, I think if I am going to be haunted by anything, it’s that comment about the event horizon of storage
Ugh, that cartoon! Genuine nightmare fuel for very small me. The whole gestalt was pretty terrifying, with the chasing and the ghoulish laughter and all, but I think what really upset me were those grotesque forearms on Tweety Hyde. Still, prompted by this post I just rewatched the short and can report that 1) I experienced no residual trauma, thank goodness, and 2) the treatment of the opening credits is pretty brilliant.
