Seventh seal is baffling as most of his films but also incredible visually.
No idea about the book of revelations I’m afraid. But wiki tells me there’s a seven headed dragon and other interesting beasts in there, so what’s not to like (probably a lot 😹)
And with Thomas Mann, it’s gloom galore- so Feb is perfect timing for research.
Hahahaa probably A LOT!! Although I like the idea of opening seals, and all manner of shocking things popping out, and then instead of giving the whole endeavour up, you open MORE seals!!
The Edwardian sketches look really promising. I especially like the adult female (mother?). With or without clothes. It feels like she has already formed as a character in your head. Maybe subconsciously.
Tor, this is so brilliant!! Can you whip out one final, devastating move and cheque-mate the Queen’s Gambit with your superior comic about Kasparfrog the chess genius!
Maybe it’s the seventh seal and he is just trying to find a way out?
This month Edwardian gent looks just like Thomas Mann, for another gloomy thought… ah it’s dark cold February brain thoughts - sorry. QG! Kasparfrog’s gonna be well dressed…
Your comment gave me lots of googling fodder yesterday Clem! I've never seen The Seventh Seal, and having read the synopsis I feel pretty sure I wouldn't understand the film - is it fairly baffling/surreal? And then I was reading about the Book of Revelation, which we really didn't learn about at our Anglican-y school - did you ever? AND Thomas Mann is a great reference for the dad, I'm going to use him!! Thank you!
I know what you mean about February brain, it's too gloomy for anything :-(
LOLOLOL that his wife leaves him for the computer, this is so funny and it MUST be realised. Sally Rooney made chess hot again last year so it's prime time for Kasparfrog.
Hahaha thanks Katie! I'm not sure how I'd best work that denouement. Maybe it would have to be a page turn where you see her in bed with the computer, THAT old classic!! The computer could have the thought bubble saying "Checkmate, Kasparov old chum" or "I'll check YOUR mate" or something like that...!?!?
I also loved The Queen's Gambit and, wow, this whole idea of Kasparfrog - the overbearing parents/coach, the internal dialogue of the chess figures ... The whole look and feel seems so intriguing!! I'd love to read it!
PS: Also love the chicken with bone in its beak!! :)
I need a frog-shaped computer now please!
😂 so useful!

Okay, I shall lean into the gloom!!

One seal at a time!
Happy gloomy Feb! ❣️
I really like the Edwardian sketches. They remind me of "A Room with a View"! (one of my fave movies.)
Thanks Ollie, I love that film too, and that's a useful reference thank you, i've been googling "Edwardian family portraits"!

😂😂😂 I like the idea of me having a devastating final move!!

Also was Intermezzo about chess??? I don't think I'll read any more SR after Normal Peeps and Convos, so don't worry about spoilers, do tell me all!!

Thanks Saki! I do like the general theme as a world for a comic, but not sure I can work with that frog!!
Man, I can't wait to read Kasparfrog!
Haha thanks Candy!
