Hello Mayweathers!
After my dog Rusty aged me by about 70 years by disappearing in the woods a couple of weeks ago, I bought him a GPS tracker for the sake of my nerves. It works through an app which has immediately plunged me into competitive dog-ownership, as it shows me Rusty’s daily activity on a leaderboard of 50 “local dogs” (no doubt all fabricated). The app tried to shame me straight out of the gate when it asked for my daily goal for Rusty - apparently my input was lamentably below average (not true, I discover - I was counting walk minutes, whereas the app counts all minutes active around the house - pathetic!) Anyway I’ve conceived a loathing for some of these “local dogs” and their owners - woe betide overachievers/app suck-ups Koko, Buck and Biscuit if I ever run into them! Whereas fellow losers Bilko, Ivy and Lou can expect a warm welcome and some Good-Dog treats from me and mine.
I’m colouring up the long project I’ve been working on since last August, and hope to be able to talk about here soon. I’m using pen for final art for the first time in a long time, having been a committed pencil fan for years and years. I love how the pen is looking with the colour, and can’t wait to share some more, but here are some snippets.
And I’ve been thinking a bit about t-shirt designs again… here are the fruits of that little detour. “I agree with the last speaker” is my aunt Dinah’s idea, and Wayne’s World fans will know the rudesome one!
Something reminded me the other day of this v silly comic I made in Florida in Tom’s class at the Sequential Artists’ Workshop. Quite early in the year, Tom showed us some of Parker Jacobs’s The Adventures of Bonnie and Chester comics, and our homework was to make up three of our own with the same two characters. Chester came out fairly obnoxious in quite a few of our comics from what I remember. He does look a bit punchable in the original, so maybe we were all enacting revenge!
Was the popcorn trick ever a real thing? If cinemas ever do die out, what will happen to those who wish to play it? Also, “I just thought I would” is a Bertie Wooster-ism, a reply he makes when someone asks him why he’s done some daft thing or other. I think it’s a very useful answer to employ, I’m going to start using it.
Thank you for reading! See you soon.
Oh chill out, Biscuit! This was a delight xx
Tor, leave it to another app to cause user goals, anxiety and the comparison trap. The best part is that it has sparked in you another winning idea. Your doggie angst illo made me laugh out loud!
I love pen and ink and pencil and faff too much over which one to use. Go with whatever feels good today. Repeat tomorrow!
As for popcorn trickery, I’ll never eat it again without thinking of your comic!
