A few weeks ago, while I was thinking about my comic A Committee Nightmare and gothic stories in general, I had a go at googling "story prompts”. This brought up many lists; my favourite is here.
Going through it, I particularly liked:
20. Satan puts you in charge of Hell.
I thought this was hilarious, and worth having a go with. I hadn’t intended to take the “you” part literally, but as soon as I started drawing, out from the pencil I popped. After all, who knows better than I how untransferable are my skills after 20+ years of this particular work?
I’ve only done three pages so far, and have no idea what will happen next, but I have some sketches for some fun hell-scapes and beasts… so we will see!
The picture of me with the imps is taken from a Hergé panel in The Broken Ear, one that has always stayed with me.
I’m not sure about my Satan rendering - I quite like the guy above with the long schnozz, but perhaps he isn’t as menacing… anyway, food for thought!
Fantastic work as always, Tor!! x
Please do another instalment of this, it’s hilarious! I can only *imagine* the bureaucracy in hell. I bet dossiers are involved. And *so* many unnecessary meetings. “Why does this need to be a meeting?” you shall cry in an anguished, infernal way
