Hello! Here I am with some sketchbook bits, and pottery pieces.
For a while, and perhaps I’ve mentioned it here, I’ve been thinking of a story about a girl growing up in a big house during/just after the Edwardian era. I’ll write more about her here when I’ve got more to show, but at the moment I’m just drawing characters, and this week did a bit of colour. I’m imagining it as a world that I could dip in and out of with short stories or character studies, but I hope it’ll get clearer.
The starting point is mostly ideas about my dad’s childhood, and what I’ve read about Leonora Carrington’s childhood growing up as a creative surrealist in a conservative, upperclass English family.
I’ve been back at the pottery after quite a long hiatus. Here are some before and after shots of recent efforts - the kiln wreaks many changes!
This plate is painted with cobalt oxide onto magma clay with a transparent glossy glaze. You can see how the lines bleed quite a bit, an effect I think has worked fine this time.
Gummy crocs sans teeth, I’ve made a few more and I’m planning to give the next lot some gnashers.
And here are a couple of sketchbook bits that I don’t think will go anywhere - except RIGHT HERE!
Until soon!
Oh yes more of that girl please. Leonora Carrington every day. Also, will you be selling any of your ceramics? If so let us all know, I've a table those crocs would look great on.
Glorious as ever, Tor - Eurydice is ace, looking forward to more of her. Your sombre tower guardian reminded me of a recent discussion in your comments about HP Lovecraft. I don't think it got mentioned at the time but one of the few short stories of his that I really enjoyed is called the Outsider. It's not part of his whole 'mythos' stuff, just an excellently ghoulish, creepy short story... with towers in it (sort of, I think).
