Hello August chums! Summer in the UK has done a runner, leaving us with weather only a garden-bothering mum could enjoy, so at least one of us is happy. This time of year, my main employers at Bayard and Milan do their excellent French thing of downing tools for a month. It’s nice for me too, and gives me a bit more time to do my own work, and catch up on other things.
I’m slooooowly working my way through colouring the instagram comic I made in 2021, The Temptation of Mr Rose. It’s 72 pages long, and so far I have done the finished line work for about 50 pages, and then will begin the longer slog of colouring.
It’s hard, in the middle of a self-generated comic job like this one, not to wonder occasionally (or more frequently), what on earth the point is. If I’m lucky, the eye-watering amount of hours I’m putting into this comic will generate about half an hour of enjoyment/bemusement for a reader... But down that road madness lies (madness being going off making comics!!!) - so let’s not look!
My hope is to get this comic finished and printed in time for Thought Bubble (an annual comic convention in Harrogate in the north of England) in early November.
I thought I would re-post one of the comics I’ve earmarked for my gothic comics anthology, another slow work-in-progress, below. This one sprang from a friend during my time in Florida telling me the story of the Monkey’s Paw.
Until soon!
If you're lucky, the eye-watering amount of hours you're putting into The Temptation of Mr Rose will generate half an hour of enjoyment for 10,000 readers! Or, you know.... lots. I for one will be buying it!
the ending of the comic made me cackle lmfaooo
